The Human Body: A Miniature Universe [Day 194 - Orchos Tzaddikim | Fear of Heaven 10]
You're listening to Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe of Torch in Houston, Texas. This is the Jewish Inspiration Podcast.
Welcome back, my dear friends, to day number 194 in the Treasure for Life edition of the Orcha Tzadikim,
Ways of the Righteous in the Gate of Fear of Heaven, on page 1000 on the bottom.
U'komosha ahadam dom me'me'at miz'e'er le'Elohim, and since a person is similar in a very small scale to G-d,
k'in bin'yan gufo dom me'lechol ha'olam, he says, therefore, the structure of his body is similar to that of the entire universe.
Oso lo gulgolas barosh, G-d gave us a dome in our head, which is our skull,
kemo rekia shamayim, just like the firmaments of the heaven, above this firmament,
she'ala rekia hazeh.
Oso lo tikra elyona alapeh, unetuos ba,
shinayim ve'ha malto'os, and G-d made the upper palate with its teeth and the incisors,
in the form of the firmament above us.
He says that just as the firmament above us divides the upper and the lower waters,
so the upper palate divides the fluids of the mouth from those of the head
and those of the upper membrane.
And u'kemosha alehim shikein shekhinos ha'akdosha be'shamaim elyonim,
And just as G-d caused His Holy Shekhinah, His Holy Presence,
to swell in the upper heavens that He spread above the waters as it is written,
who roofs the waters with His upper heavens,
so does He cause the spirit of the soul of life and knowledge and understanding
to reside in the cerebral membrane which roofs the brain and moistures.
And see and understand this to be true, for if the man's cerebral membrane is torn or pierced,
he dies immediately, the spirit of life residing in it.
And just as the blessed G-d caused His Holy Shekhinah to reside in the West,
so He placed the brain in the back of the head, above the ears, and placed
the spirit of life upon the brain.
And just as the entire world endures and is conducted by the power of one G-d,
so the entire body is conducted by the power of one spirit of life
that the blessed G-d conferred upon it.
He says,
And a person endures, hopefully in health, by means of it until its end.
And if a foreign foul spirit invades his body, it will not endure in its former state.
And just as He placed in the firmament of heavens two luminaries, the sun and the moon,
and five planets, I don't know what five planets He's referring to,
He created seven elements of our head.
What is that?
Two eyes, two ears, two nostrils, and the mouth.
The right eye is compared to the sun,
and the left eye is compared to the moon.
The right nostril is compared to the stars,
and the left one is compared to, one is Mercury, one is Mars.
The mouth, the tongue, and the lips are analogous to Jupiter.
The right ear to Venus, and the left ear to Saturn.
He said,
And just as the ear was inserted between the firmament and the earth,
so was their fashion inside man's body, a chest and a trunk.
And just as He caused wind to blow in the ear, in the concavity of the earth, of the world,
so the breath of the spirit of life is emitted from the lungs within the chest and trunk,
and the body's concavity.
And just as He spread the earth above the waters,
so He spread and stretched the fleshy membrane over the liver, the stomach, the intestines,
and the spleen, that is, the flesh between the lungs, liver, spleen, intestines, and the stomach.
And just as He blessed God, as the blessed God made birds, fish, animals, and beasts
that are innocent and merciful, and in which do not prey upon each other,
and others that are cruel, and which tear and swallow each other up, so did He fashion men.
He says,
The good people are like animals that don't attack others.
The bad ones are the ones who are predators, just like the beast, like the lion.
And there are others who are compared to
bears and wolves, as it is written, her judges are wolves of the waste.
So we're compared, we see that we have the ability to be like good of Hashem's creation,
or heaven forbid, bad of Hashem's creation.
Everything Hashem created was good, but we can use them in a bad way.
Hashem created, right?
So we have to choose who we want to be like.
And this concludes day number 194.
